Yanel Garcia Returns from Studying Abroad in Madagascar

2015 May 4

Yanel Garcia of Chicago, a junior at Lafayette College, recently returned from studying abroad in Madagascar during the 2014-15 winter break as part of the Lafayette Initiative for Malagasy Education (LIME), a peer-to-peer mentoring program. Yanel is a graduate of Noble Street College Prep.

Garcia was one of 10 students selected to travel to the Malagasy capital of Antananarivo as part of an intensive, three-week faculty-led course to help public high school students apply to colleges and universities in the U.S. Lafayette students are responsible for all aspects of the program, including preparing lesson plans, learning about Malagasy culture, raising funds and, upon their return to campus, maintaining student-mentor relationships with student applicants. Students can apply to the U.S. college or university of their choice. Read more about this Lafayette study abroad program in Madagascar.
