2016 Jul 8

Lucy McKnight of Cross Roads, PA graduated summa cum laude from Lafayette College in Easton, PA and earned a bachelor of science in computer science Pi Mu Epsilon, Upsilon Pi Epsilon.

Here are photos and video highlights from Lafayette's 181st Commencement held Saturday, May 21 outside on the campus Quad.

William D. Adams, chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities was the principal speaker.

Lafayette's grads, "products of the liberal arts and sciences, are the really lucky ones," said Adams. "For you've had an education that will work across every part of your lives and that will continue to demonstrate its value over time."

President Alison Byerly conferred degrees upon the graduates and gave farewell remarks to the class.

A sword once owned by the Marquis de Lafayette was presented to fellow graduates by Pepper Prize Winner Guilherme Ferreira de Avila '16 as an invitation to seize the responsibilities that come with a Lafayette education.

Lafayette is a top liberal arts college with 2,450 students and 215 full-time faculty, offering a wide variety of undergraduate degree programs including engineering. With close proximity to New York City and Philadelphia, Lafayette has one of the highest endowment-per-student rates in the nation. This means ample resources to fuel student research and provide opportunities for study abroad, internships, and field work. It means outstanding facilities, Division I sports, and funding for 250 student groups on one of the most beautiful campuses in the country.
